Important Information

After Minor Oral Surgery

To accelerate the healing process, we strongly recommend following the guidelines outlined below. Please note that it is completely normal to experience some discomfort after surgery and to have swelling in the lower part of your face.

Day of Surgery

Pain

During the first 24 to 72 hours, take acetaminophen-based medication (Tylenol, Atasol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), or the medications prescribed to you to relieve pain, but avoid aspirin.
Rinse your mouth three times daily with warm salt water (2 ml or 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 250 ml or 1 cup of water) starting the day after surgery until complete healing.
Bruising may appear on your skin. This will gradually disappear after five to seven days.
You may also have difficulty opening your mouth. This discomfort will subside within four to five days.
If the pain intensifies after three days, do not hesitate to call us.

Important Information

After Tooth Extraction

To accelerate the healing process, please follow the measures suggested below. Please keep in mind that it is completely normal to experience some discomfort and to have swelling in the lower part of your face after tooth extraction.

Day of Surgery

Keep the gauze pads in your mouth for one to two hours while maintaining firm pressure. Replace them every half hour as needed.
Keep your head in an upright position at all times.
Apply a cold compress to your cheek at regular intervals (20 minutes of cold per hour).
In case of bleeding, use a gauze pad or slightly moistened tea bag and bite down for approximately 20 minutes.
Many patients experience blood discharge and notice a reddish coloration in their saliva.
Limit physical exertion.

Recommended Diet

From the Next Day Until Complete Healing

Rinse your mouth three times daily with warm salt water (2 ml or 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 250 ml or 1 cup of water).
Brush your teeth and use dental floss daily to remove plaque and promote better long-term results. Avoid brushing around the extraction site during the first 72 hours.
Avoid eating hard foods (nuts, candy, ice cubes).
Certain words may be more difficult to pronounce and your saliva may be more abundant than usual. Everything will return to normal in less than a week.
Bruising may appear on your face. It will disappear after five to seven days.
Some people have difficulty opening their mouth for up to five days following extraction.
If after three days the pain increases instead of decreasing, do not hesitate to call us.

Rest assured, you will likely feel better after a few days and will be able to resume your usual activities. In case of pain, heavy bleeding, swelling for 2-3 days, or a reaction to the prescribed medication, please contact us immediately at 450 373-6636.

After Crown or Bridge Installation

To promote your healing, we recommend following the procedure described below. Please note that it is completely normal to experience some discomfort after surgery and to have swelling in the lower part of your face.

Bridge/crown installation is done in two appointments. During the first visit, we take impressions of the teeth to be replaced. Then, we proceed with the placement of temporary crowns or bridges to protect your teeth before the replacement teeth are ready.

From the Next Day Until Complete Healing

In case of loss of a temporary crown, we invite you to come to the clinic immediately to have it reattached. If you wait too long, installing the new crown may be more difficult and other teeth may begin to migrate toward the empty space.
